Pre-Law (Pre-Professional Program)
(College of Arts & Sciences)

Program Description
The Jacksonville University pre-law program is designed to assist students interested in the profession of law. The program provides individual advising as well as information on undergraduate preparation for law school, the Law School Admission Test (LSAT), the admissions process, and individual law schools.

Curriculum Overview
Unlike many pre-professional programs, pre-law students are not required to major in any one particular field or take any specific courses. However, there are certain skills and values that are important for success in both the study and practice of law. Among these are analytic and problem solving skills, abilities in critical reasoning, writing, and oral communication, skills in research and task management, and a broad understanding of our society. Courses recommended by law schools include philosophy, literature, history, political science, economics, psychology, accounting, sociology, and mathematics. But any course that demands logical thinking, analytical reasoning, or verbal proficiency could be appropriate for pre-law preparation. Pre-law students should recognize that admission to law school is selective. Therefore, students planning a career in law should include in their undergraduate program a substantial academic curriculum and extra-curricular activities, including a public service experience.

Facilities & Resources
Materials on pre-law preparation, the LSAT, individual law schools, and the application process are maintained in the Pre-Law office in Room 109 in the Gooding Building.

Internship
Internships for qualified students can be arranged with local attorneys and governmental agencies.

Outcomes
Jacksonville University graduates have gone on to a variety of law schools. Some of those include Hofstra University School of Law, University of Arkansas, University of Nebraska College of Law, University of Florida College of Law, Louisiana State University School of Law, and the Walter F. George School of Law.
