Employee Phone System
Jacksonville University’s telephone system runs on a Siemens HiPath 4050, and it provides phone service to the Residence Halls, Dorms, as well as the Academic and Support offices around campus. JU also provides voicemail to Academic and Support offices, and to residents living in the dorms and apartments. Voicemail services run on Siemens Xpressions 3.0, which allows users to customize their boxes, and access voicemail directly from their room/office, or from off-site. Emergency Phones: JU also provides several Emergency phone stations around campus. These phones are programmed to call Public Safety, and are located outside of the following buildings: Apartments Bartlett-Kinne Council Dorms Gooding Gym Handball Courts Merritt Penticoff Visual Arts Annex Emergency phone calls can be made from any campus phone by dialing 911, or by calling Public Safety at x7585.

*If you have no dial tone or static on all calls, make sure all connections are secure, including the line cord into the jack and the handset cord into the telephone. Also, try switching out the phone with a known working phone to ensure that the problem is not with the handset. Many tricks and tips are included that may save you time and headache when working with the various features of the system. Frequently Asked Questions: OptiPoint Digital Phones Q. Why are all my incoming calls going directly to voicemail, even when I’m not on the phone? A. You probably have the phone in “Do Not Disturb” mode or you have Call forwarding turned on. To turn off DND, press “##5”. To turn off Call Fowarding, press “##91”. Q. How do I adjust the volume of my ring? A. Press “+” or “-“ button and then press “1”. Then use the +/- buttons to find the desired volume. Press the “a” button to save the selection. Q. How do I change the ringtone/pitch of my phone? A. Press the “+” or “-“ button and then press “2”. Then use the +/- buttons to find the desired pitch. Press the “a” button to save the selection. Q. How do I transfer a caller directly to another user’s voicemail? A. Press the “Transfer” button, and dial “4925”. When prompted, dial the extension number of the voicemail box you would like to send the caller to and press “#”. Press “#” to confirm your selection and hang up. Xpressions Voicemail Q. How do I set the password on my voicemail? A. Call the Telephone Help Desk at x7199. If you reach the office voicemail, be sure to leave your name, phone number, and an alternate phone number or email where we can reach you. Q. When I try to access my voicemail, it says that it’s been locked for my protection. How can I get into my voicemail box? A. The Xpressions voicemail system allows 5 invalid password attempts before it locks the mailbox. If your mailbox has been locked, please call x7199 to have the mailbox unlocked. If you need assistance resetting your password, we can assist you when you call. Q. Can I check my messages from off-campus? A. Yes. To access your messages from off-campus, dial 256-7111. You will be prompted to enter your extension number followed by the “#” sign, and then your password followed by the “#” sign. Follow the prompts to listen to messages as you normally would in your room. If you’re calling from a long distance number, just dial 904-256-7111 and follow the same directions.
